HOW TO JOIN THE MARIN GRAND JURY
The Grand Jury serves for one year, from July 1 to June 30.
Each spring the presiding judge calls for volunteers to serve on the next Grand Jury.
To be qualified you must be a resident US citizen of the county and be at least 18 years
old.
You should also:
- Be interested in how local government works and how it can operate more effectively.
- Be willing to cooperate with 18 others in creating and working toward common goals.
- Be able to serve up to 20 hours a week for one year. (July1-June 30).
- Be willing to learn (or already have) the skills of listening, asking thoughtful questions, reviewing documents,
and helping to write lucid reports.
-Be able to keep a secret. All work is confidential, and must remain so even after your term of office is completed.
Interested parties fill out and submit an application form to the Court Administration office.
All applicants are then interviewed by one of the county judges, who then select the 30 names that they feel
are most qualified to serve.
A drawing is then held in June to select the 19 members who will form the Grand Jury, with the remaining
names retained as alternates if needed to replace members who may have resigned.
