Membership Meeting of the Marin Chapter of CGJA
March 19, 2009 – The Bay Model, Sausalito
The membership meeting took place at the Bay Model,
Sausalito at
approximately 12:10-12:45PM. Prior to the meeting
the group was taken on a 75 minute tour of the Bay Model. There were about 20
chapter members present including: Catherine McKown, Irwin Taranto, Jan Gross,
Sterling Harwell, Gene Dyer and Ted Freeman plus a few spouses and other
guests.
The meeting was conducted by chapter president
Catherine McKown. Afterwards a number of members went to lunch together.
The agenda, and minutes of the prior meeting, were
each approved
unanimously.
The chapter President’s remarks included the
following-
- Thanked
Jan Gross for making the arrangements for the tour today.
- Thanked
Trish Hibben, Betty Mattea, Jan Gross, Gene Dyer and others for
planning and carrying out the recent 10-year
reunion.
- Announced
that Patrick Lane has resigned from the chapter board.
- Stated
that the state face-to-face Board meeting in Sacramento was a
good meeting.
- The
law suit against the state organization had been resolved.
- The
orientation of Grand Jury candidates will be on April 16, 23, and 30.
- Any
one who is interested in serving in a chapter position for the next year should
contact Owen Haxton to volunteer.
The Treasurer, Irwin Taranto reported that the
treasury was in good shape and that the financial statements had been reviewed
and were accepted by the review committee. He will not be continuing as
treasurer for the next year.
Committee Reports were made as follows (briefly)-
- Speaker
Program- The speaker for
our next meeting will be Russ
Colombo of the Bank of Marin.
- Social- The April 16 meeting will be a Gaspar’s
Restaurant and the
reunion luncheon will be May 21; more information
will be coming.
- Excellence
in Reporting- The committee
needs more members as they
figure out what recommendations to make on GJ
reports.
- Public
Outreach- Has apparently
had success shown by the over 100 GJ
applicants this year.
- Membership- Mentioned the things that the committee is
working on such
as: Updating lists, membership classifications,
possible membership
premiums, and such.
- Continuity- The newly-constituted committee had their first
meeting. They
talked of their way forward. They plan to review GJ
reports and responses
and see what results to help the standing GJ. They
see themselves as a
key committee in supporting the GJ system. The
committee is short
handed, thus looking for additional members.
- Nominations/Elections- They have been lining up candidates for offices
for next year. They will present a slate. There are still openings for
candidates for the Board of Directors.
- Orientation- The committee will present an orientation to the
new Grand
Jury 7-9 and 14-16. They also are in the process of
reviewing the manual.
- Public
Issues- The committee plans
to research and discuss public issues. The criteria have been selected. They
have also thought up some topics for discussion, such as, the MMWD
Desalinization program, Marin County Planning. They may invite the general
public to their discussions and may submit complaints to the GJ as a result of
the discussions. A Public Issues Charter was moved, seconded and approved
unanimously.
Under New Business it was proposed that the Board
of Directors have three members at large versus one for 2009-2010. The motion
was made, seconded and approved unanimously.
The meeting was adjourned at about 12:45 PM.
